31 days of German Riesling winners announced225 restaurants, bars and wine specialists united for a summer devoted to German Riesling
The 31 Days of German Riesling was a huge success this year with 225 participants, including 54 Waitrose stores, signing up to spread enthusiasm for the king of German grape varieties. In 2016 the word of Riesling flooded the streets of over 100 towns and cities in the UK and over 50 locations across London.
The involvement of 162 retailers and importers and 63 restaurants and bars represents a 35% rise compared to 2015. Add to that a record breaking sampling reach of over 60,900 consumers in wine bars, restaurants and independent retailers across the UK.
With more innovation and dedication than ever, participants organised an impressive selection of events – from ‘Wine and Swine’ days devoted to Riesling and hog roast and elaborate window displays, to festivals of Riesling and 3D wine tastings, this year was bigger and better than ever!
Participants around the country competed to win the coveted 31 Days of German Riesling titles of Retailer and Restaurant of the Year, as well as funds towards new German wine listings. Original ideas, diverse wine lists and social media buzz were all taken into account in the difficult decision-making process.
In 2016 it was so close that as well as the Winner & Runner Up titles, Wines of Germany has given Highly Commended awards to a further two retailers and restaurants.
