From blind tastings to seven-course dinners, the 11th edition did not disappoint!
July was a busy month for German Riesling as once again over 130 wine bars, restaurants and independent merchants came together to celebrate Germany’s iconic grape variety, this time for the 11th year of 31 Days of German Riesling!
Energy, dynamism and sheer enjoyment of great German Riesling defined the campaign this year, especially for the winning participants. All the winners and runners up impressed with their wonderful ranges of German wine and uplift in sales, as their teams got behind the campaign and shared their enthusiasm for German Riesling with customers.
And this year, the winners are:
Winners:
Philglas & Swiggot – Off Trade
Fourth and Church – On Trade
Tring Winery / Online Wine Tasting Club – Best Digital Campaign
Runners Up:
Theatre of Wine – Off Trade
Eat Drink Sleep – On Trade
BOX-E – On Trade
Paul Morgan from on trade winner Fourth and Church shared what he felt was most effective and why: “The daily changing list by the glass created a huge uplift in sales and lots of really positive engagement with our customers and a real fun training focus with the team.”
Jeremy Paul from off trade runner up Theatre of Wine said, “As a retailer, it’s great to see the enjoyment our customers get when they taste these wines, often for the first time.”
Nicky Forrest, MD of Wines of Germany UK commented, “It’s great to see the enthusiasm year on year for 31 Days of German Riesling – several participants have let us know that they already have plans for their campaigns next July! Riesling has doubled in popularity in the last five years, and is now the country’s sixth favourite white grape, and seeing the way independent merchants, wine bars and restaurants get stuck into 31 Days of German Riesling, it’s easy to see why. Roll on July 2023!”
