An Introduction to the VDP Grosser Ring Auction with Johannes and Barbara Selbach – from Stannary Wine

This year’s Grosser Ring auction takes place on September 16th. The VDP Grosser Ring Auction is a chance for wine lovers to get their hands on some extremely rare wines from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer.

The best wine lots from the current vintage and rare back-vintages are all presented at this auction, with bidders from all over the world participating. Wines included as lots in the auction are labelled as such and will only ever be available in the open market if a buyer decides to resell their bottles, a rare occurence!

Excitingly for those participating, these renowned auctions are all ‘wet’, meaning that every wine presented (apart from the extremely rare bottles) are poured out for guests to taste!

Stannary Wine buyers Will Heslop and Jason Haynes will be in Trier for the auction and preceding tasting, making the final selection of wines on which to bid.

Join Stannary Wine online on August 30th at 6.30pm for an introduction to the VDP Grosser Ring Auction with Johannes and Barbara Selbach.

As well as running two successful domains, the Selbachs operate as Commissioners for the auction. They will explain the intricacies and history of the auction; the role of the Commissioners; and provide insight into the 2021 vintage (on which the auction will focus) and specific lots available this year.

The tasting is free to join. If you wish to lubricate proceedings, Stannary wine is offering the option to purchase two bottles (bought by Stannary) from the past two auctions: Altenberg Kabinett ’20 and Spätlese ’19 VDP Mosel Auction Wine, both from the excellent Weingut von Othegraven. These are available at the price of £100 inc. duty,VAT and delivery.

It promises to be a fascinating evening, with Rieslings set to make your mouth water ahead of the VDP Grosser Ring Auction!
