The Wines of Germany Get it On competition opens to wineries looking to get their wine on to UK wine lists and shelves. Since its launch in 2014, the Get in On campaign has resulted in a further 27 producers finding listings in the UK market, representing 26% of the total number of producers who took part.
All producers who registered in 2016 were entered into a blind wine tasting with a panel of German wine specialists and ambassadors – Anne Krebiehl MW, Matt Walls, Helena Nicklin, Christina Schneider, Roger Jones, Beth Willard – at the end of September. Here the judges selected their top wineries to be showcased at a tasting in November.
At the tasting, held in November, we welcomed members of the UK wine trade – including key importers, influential sommeliers and wine press – to taste a selection of currently unrepresented German wines at a tasting at the Darren Baker Gallery in London.
Wines ranged from the German classics – Riesling and Spätburgunder – to those less common in the UK market such as Silvaner, Weißburgunder, Lemberger, Grauburgunder, and Sekt, and attendees were impressed with the modern style and diversity on show.
Since the tasting, several attendees have been in touch to let us know they are contacting wineries directly, and we wait in anticipation to see which producers will be snapped up for the UK next!
