Saale-Unstrut

Small wine growing region in East Germany, wine from East Germany is rare and much desired.

Sachsen

Another one of the two small wine growing regions in East Germany.

Scheurebe

A white grape variety, indigenous to Germany.

Sekt

Sparkling wine, must not have added carbon dioxide, high quality wines are mostly produced after the method “Flaschengaerung” (see Flaschengaerung)

Silvaner

A white grape variety, indigenous to Germany and grown there for over 300 years. Both Franken and Rheinhessen have a lot of Silvaner vineyards.

Spätburgunder

German word for Pinot Noir.

Spätlese

The next ripeness level in the Prädikat system after Kabinett. Wines are usually medium full-bodied and have a decent level of ripeness (See Prädikatswein).
